2020 Toyota RAV4 – The Crossover of Crossovers

2020 Toyota RAV4 – The Crossover of Crossovers

The continuous over achiever that comes with a trim level that works for every lifestyle, is the 2020 Toyota RAV4. It continues to be the best selling crossover in America, with its undeniable value, practicality, style, and reliability.

Toyota has 10 variants of the RAV4, the LE, XLE, XLE Premium, XSE, Limited, and Hybrids. All these trim levels provide immense value for just about any budget. Across the lineup, the exterior of the 2019 to 2020 Toyota RAV4 trim levels do not show much of a difference. The 2019 RAV4 came with a major aesthetic overhaul, which carried over to the 2020 model. For 2020, Toyota introduced the TRD Off-Road model, adding to the rugged offroading capabilities of the Adventure with better suspension, larger wheels, and tires.

Android auto comes standard on every model along with Apple CarPlay, Alexa, and SirusXM in all the vehicles. Every RAV4 comes with a 3-Month trial for those technologies, which is a great bonus. One thing to note for the 2020 RAV4, is that the XLE no longer comes standard with a moonroof. The moonroof is now part of the convenience package.

All-Wheel drive is also a $1,400 option on the LE, XLE, XLE Premium, and Limited models, all of which can come with just front wheel drive. Limited models now come standard with JBL speakers.

Two addons that might be worth looking into are the convenience and weather packages.

See below for what is included in each:

Convenience Package:

  • Power Liftgate
  • Power Moonroof

Weather Package:

  • Heated Seats
  • Heated Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel
  • Rain Sensing Wipers
  • Wiper Defroster

Depending on where you live and/or your lifestyle, each might be a necessity for your RAV4.

Every new Toyota comes standard with Toyota Care, which includes:

  • Factory maintenance is covered for any purchase or lease for the first 2 years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first.
  • 24- hour roadside assistance for 2 years and unlimited miles. (24/7) for 2 years

With this vehicle’s sleek design, reliability, driver’s visibility from the cabin, technology, and safety features, it’s easy to see why buyers continue to purchase and lease the RAV4 every year.

See below for a breakdown of what you can get with each trim level to help make your next purchase, an educated one.

The exterior of the XLE is the same as the LE. However, the XLE comes with 17-in. 5-spoke silver alloy wheels with 225/65R17 tires as opposed to the LE’s steel wheels with a 6 spoke silver cover.

Interior:

Being a step up from the LE, the XLE comes with power seats unlike the manual ones in the LE. You can get heated seats by opting for the additional option with this trim level.

While the LE comes with black interior door handles, the XLE has chrome handles.

Tech and Safety:

The XLE comes with all the tech and safety features offered in the LE along with some extras.

The additions include Smart Key System on front doors and lift-gate with Push Button Start.

Toyota RAV4 XLE Premium

Exterior:

The XLE Premium comes with 19-in. multi-spoke super chrome-finished alloy wheels with 235/55R19 tires. It comes with height adjustable power lift tailgate to help with onloading all manner of heavy objects, all hands free.

If I had to choose a great looking model to start with, the XLE Premium with its 19 inch wheels would definitely be my starting point.

Interior:

The interior comes with a plethora of upgrades compared to the previous models.

The upgrade from fabric to SoftTex trimmed bucket seats. The driver seat is now 8-way adjustable with lumbar support while the passenger seat remains 4 way adjustable. The addition of having these seats heated with 2 position memory can be included as an option.

The steering wheel now comes with leather in this trim level.

Tech and Safety:

In addition to the usual tech and safety features within the 2020 Toyota RAV4, this trim level includes much more.

You now have the Smart Key System on the front doors and liftgate with Push Button Start with remote keyless entry with lock, unlock, panic, and power liftgate with jam protection functions.

This trim level also comes with Digital rearview mirror with HomeLink universal transceiver, which is always an awesome feature to have in a vehicle to me.

Performance:

As per usual, most might feel this is lazy engineering from Toyota.

The truth is they have an engine that can pretty much do it all for their trim levels and they know what works. This engine doesn’t pack an insane 0 to 60 time and won’t blow past the competition, but it gets the job done and then some!

Toyota RAV4 Adventure & TRD Off-Road

Exterior:

Now we get to dive into the fun cars of the Toyota RAV4 lineup, the Adventure and TRD Off-Road.

Most are familiar with the Adventure while the TRD is a new addition that comes with it’s own wheels and a more aggressive suspension. The Adventure comes with 19 inch split 5 spoke alloy wheels with matte black accents and 235/55R19 tires. The TRD Off-Road comes with 18 inch 6 spoke matte black TRD flow-formed alloy wheels with black lug nuts and 225/60R18 100H tires.

You can tell it’s a TRD with it’s integrated LED fog light with black trim, unique color-keyed upper and black lower front bumper, large black overfenders and rear bumper with magnetic gray inserts. The Adventure comes with the regular unique color-keyed upper and black lower front bumper, larger black overfenders and black rear bumper with silver inserts.

Both these trim levels stand out from all other RAV4 models and will get you out of a tricky situation in no time. They have their own custom black badging, just incase you didn’t get the memo what trim levels they are.

I like to think of them this way, the Adventure is for exploring what nature has to offer and the TRD Off-Road is for conquering it!

Interior:

Both models come with the same digital speedometer found in the Limited model.

The TRD comes with SoftTex seats with red stitching and an 8 way adjustable and heated driver’s seat with lumbar support. The Adventure has the same but with orange stitching.

If you want to stand out from other RAV4’s on the road in a major way with all the awesome tech that comes with it, either one of these models will do that and much more.

Tech and Safety:

In terms of safety, these two models pretty much come fully equipped with all the bells and whistles Toyota has to offer.

All trim levels come with almost all the bells and whistles; however, some like the LE have to be optioned in like blind spot monitoring.

Performance:

These models come with the same engine, only in AWD, unlike the previous trim levels.

They both have dynamic torque vectoring All-Wheel Drive with rear driveline disconnect, not your everyday AWD system. If you needed any more help spotting the TRD, Toyota did a bit more to help it not only stick out from the pack but, perform better.

The TRD comes with TRD-tuned independent MacPherson strut front suspension with stabilizer bar. That’s not all, it also comes with a multi-link rear suspension with stabilizer bar which includes unique shocks, struts, red-painted coul springs, and jounce bumpers.

You’re going to enjoy driving this off-road.

Hybrid RAV4 - LE and XLE Hybrid

Exterior:

Both these vehicles come with 17 inch 5-spoke silver alloy wheels with 225/65R17 tires.

The LE comes, with the per usual LED headlights with the black bezel while the XLE comes with multi LED headlights with the chrome bezel. The same as all LE’s, the hybrid comes without a fog light while the XLE comes with integrated fog lights.

They both have pretty much the same exterior appearance as their non hybrid counterparts, except the LE Hybrid has better wheels.

Interior:

The interior resembles that of their non hybrid counterparts, with the exception of the dash. Now it includes a hybrid power meter and hybrid energy monitor.

Performance:

The Hybrids all have 219 HP combined with an electric on demand All-Wheel Drive – Drivetrain.

All hybrid models provide more power in relation to the non hybrid models.

Hybrid RAV4 - XSE and Limited Hybrid

Exterior:

Both the RAV4 XSE and the RAV4 Limited come with 18 inch 5 spoke alloy wheels with P225/60R18 tires. The difference is in the wheel finish, the XSE has a black painted wheel while the Limited has a super chrome-finished wheel. Both make these vehicles look sporty driving down the road. Most might say the XSE is a more sporty version of the XLE Premium with a hint of the Limited mixed in there.

The XSE definitely stands out from other models as well with the strong emphasis on being sporty. As the auto industry has seen consumers love black accents on sporty vehicles, Toyota has definitely noticed and implemented it. From the bumpers, fenders, trim on the fog lights, and much more. The XSE is a delight not only to drive but to watch as it rolls down the street. The Limited Hybrid is not to be slept on but you are usually buying the most expensive trim because you want all the bells and whistles, and that’s exactly what you get with the Limited Hybrid.

Interior:

The interior of the RAV4 Limited Hybrid resembles that of its non hybrid counterpart, with the exception of the dash. Now it includes a hybrid power meter and hybrid energy monitor, same as the XSE. If you’re looking for the most sporty version of the RAV4, look no further than the XSE Hybrid. It comes with the same bells and whistles in a Limited but with sporty blue stitching on the SoftTex seats. The XSE comes with a black headliner, while most if not all RAV4 models come with the ash gray headliner.

Performance:

The Hybrids all have 219 HP combined with an electric on demand All-Wheel Drive – Drivetrain. All hybrid models provide more power in relation to the non hybrid models.

Conclusion
With all the defining features written above, that most consumers care about, we hope you found this useful in identifying which RAV4 is right for you. All the models are fairly close in price and if you can justify the extra expense, as a car enthusiast I’d almost suggest doing so. Being the segment leader in terms of sales year after year, these are vehicles that will amaze you in terms of reliability and safety.

The 2020 Toyota RAV4, no matter the trim you choose will be an investment that will last years to come unlike other manufacturers that struggle with reliability.

While the LE is the base model of the RAV4, all Toyota vehicles come equipped with safety tech, other than blindspots monitoring. That feature comes with models following the XLE.

While the 2019 and the 2020 RAV4s are almost identical, there are notable difference. For example, the XLE no longer comes standard with a moon-roof but it comes with power seats. The Moon-roof is now part of the convenience package. If you want a heated leather steering wheel, you will have to opt for the XLE (and up) and get the weather package.

Depending on where you live, heated steering wheels are a serious game changer.

LE’s being the base model come without fog lights and black bezels while XLE models (and up) come with not only integrated fog lights but a touch lock/unlock feature as long as your keys are nearby.

The four models that stand out to us, at N3S TECH, would have to be the TRD Off-Road, Adventure, XSE Hybrid, and Limited Hybrid

The stitching on the seats and dash are red in TRD, orange in Adventure, Blue in XSE Hybrid, and dark brown in the Limited. From the stitching on the dash, to the seats, and the ambient lighting, all these models follow their respective color schemes.

Not only does the TRD provide insane off road capabilities, it lets you have more fun than you should with your RAV4, but the touches of red are aesthetically pleasing. The Adventure, while it’s not as capable or tuned as the TRD, it also provides a unique feel that only these two can provide. The XSE Hybrid had all the black accents and trims you could every want from a sporty vehicle with blue stitching and ambient lighting. The Limited Hybrid is a more classy vehicle that packs the same punch as the XSE Hybrid but with more addons included.

It’s easy to get lost with all the amazing models and trim levels that Toyota offers with the RAV4. I hope we were able to provide some clarity into what makes each trim slightly more appealing to a given audience.
